Next Reflex Dance Collective’s 3rd Music and Dance Festival
February 8, 2020 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
The Workhouse Arts Center Residency artists Next Reflex Dance Collective, present their 3rd Annual Winter Music and Dance Festival, a one-night dance and music event at the W-3 Theater Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton VA. The performance highlights music and dance from various genres. This year’s festival features dance artists including, Kristin Hatelburg, District Tap, and Next Reflex Dance Collective artists Roxann Morgan Rowley and Tori Utenburger. Featured musical artists include Nate Masters, Mark Snyder, Dirty Dabs & Meaux, and alternative rock band The Aftershakes.
Hatelburg’s The Read Aloud Dance is a duet between a voiced dance and an embodied dance; the voiced dance and the embodied dance both performed by the same person, yet are separated in time. District Tap under the direction of Lisa Swenton-Eppard and Baakari Wilderengage the audience with an a cappella tap dance entitled Ki. Next Reflex Dance Collective brings to the stage several works and collaborations with musical guests. INtimate Window is a series of short dance vignettes and glimpses of the lives we lead behind closed doors with musical composition and performance by Mark Snyder. A Journey Through, a new choreographic work by Roxann Morgan Rowley, explores our personal journeys and the possibility that we are on the same path, with musical composition and performance by Nate Masters. Tori Utenburger shares her choreographic trio Spoiled, exploring the abuses and advantages that we all bring to our most intimate relationships. Morgan Rowley premiers The Painting, a solo inspired by the painting Christina’s World by Andrew Wyeth a woman lost in her own thoughts feeling the weight of something or someone, physically abandoned.
Nate Masters from Newport News, VA, performs live musical accompaniment for NRDC as well as presenting his own solo set. Esteemed musician Mark Snyder from Jacksonville, Fl drives the music for INtimate Window. Alternative rock band NOVA’s own The Aftershakes take us to a more mainstream place with their hard alternative roots and strong rhythmic performance. Dirty Dabs and Meaux mix it up laying down some aggressive, psychedelic and chill hip hop trap tracks. Music by Drake Dragon is also featured in choreographer Roxann Morgan Rowley’s short dance film Glimpse.
A presentation of on the spot collaboration, improvisation, spontaneity and cultural richness with lots of dance and music fills this exciting performance.
