More Than I Should

December 11 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Premier and recent works by five choreographers
Jane Franklin Dance returns to Theatre on the Run with More Than I Should exploring themes of vulnerability, balance and control, progression, self-awareness and passion.
Jane Franklin’s Stratum contrasts the desire to not-be-seen with the opposite urge to become larger than life. Spanish guitar by Manuel Granada, “Romance Anonimo” accompanies duets that accumulate and dissolve. Music by Astor Piazzolla and Vio-dion Duo anchor layered movement.
Ryan Carlough’s This Is takes a look at the relationship between employees. Individual perspectives are relayed when an “incident” occurs. Original music is by local artist Violet Barnhart.
Whatever Floats Your Boat – The Forty+ Project dancers set sail for a whimsical cruise choreographed by Emily Crews to a jaunty sea shanty by Nathan Evans and a timeless old standard tune by Bobby Darin.
Robert Rubama’s new work, Drone is a quartet that frames unlikely partnership within symmetry. Surprising movement responds to “Fantas for Saxophone and Voice” by Caterina Barbieri (featuring Bendik Giske)
Fall Line – Dance is inspired by visual art from “Potomac River Life” seen at Northern Virginia Fine Arts Association at the Athenaeum. Works explore the Potomac River, its vital role in the regional ecosystem. Artworks by Michael Gessner River Vessel, Eric Jackson LargeMouth Bass, Potomac River, 2022, Elizabeth Matthews Great Falls at Dusk and David Whitmore Extant motivate a response in movement.
Robert J. Priore’s new work frames a partnership within a larger group dynamic.. Music is by Sofian Parmart “Madagascar”, “Why Hurt the One Who Loves You” by Roy Orbison, and “Gysgewys” by Amsterdam Klezmer Band
