Jane Franklin Dance: About Time

March 20 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Free

In conjunction with the February 24 – April 4, 2021 Athenaeum Exhibition, Philip Livingston | Family, Ghosts and Other Strangers, Jane Franklin Dance presents About Time, a collection of dances that investigate fluidity and memory in response to the visual landscape of Livingston’s art. Corresponding bodies work in harmony or dissonance. Silhouettes emerge. Dancers in bold colors are playfully paired with projected family photographs, monochromes in B&W, images from childhood and past generations that flutter and disappear. Shadows hint at moments just missed. Livingston’s spoken-word descriptions reveal his process and the elements of change.

Christopher Thomas performs his poem “No Cares.” The rhythms of his voice underline the message of self-acceptance and hope as performers respond word by word. Isolated solos emerge from within a group. Moments of stillness are activated by brief flurries of movement. The individual stands out in the crowd.

*Performance will be livestreamed on Zoom*
