Virtual Professional Development with Local Motion Project
December 29 – December 30
Local Motion Project offers a robust, process-oriented curriculum that goes beyond building techniques to develop young dancers into critical-thinkers, effective communicators, and active participants in their dance education. This approach allows us to make changes when needed as we continue to assess curriculum, pedagogy, and policy to align with contemporary thought in dance education. It has also allowed for a seamless transition to online and hybrid learning that has maintained student participation and engagement during the pandemic.
We invite dance educators to learn what this approach looks like in practice. Designed for teachers working with dancers ages 5 through teen, this workshop will focus on:
-Including dance-making as an essential component of curriculum
-Utilizing props to help students at all levels increase body awareness
-Intentionally incorporating SEL into the curriculum and pedagogy
-Developing a new perspective on recital/showcase planning
-How to address current topics in dance education such as dance beyond concert styles, voices left out of the cannon, and de-centering ballet while keeping it relevant
All participants will receive lesson plan templates, resources, and activity ideas that will simplify lesson planning.
