Saturday, November 13 at 8pm
Sunday, November 14 at 2pm
Joe’s Movement Emporium presents GRIDLOCK Dance, November 12-14, for their inaugural performance Veritas, a multimedia and interactive dance performance about how truth can be silenced, distorted, or erased entirely by American mass media. Featuring original music and projections, Veritas calls into question for each audience member how willing they are to defend the truth in their own lives. Described as a “raw talent” and “a treasure that can push the dance community in the right direction” (Charm City Dance), GRIDLOCK Dance is led by emerging District choreographer Madeline Maxine Gorman.
In today’s political climate, no subject is more contested than the truth. With lies running rampant and faster than ever due to the rise of social media, everyday Americans are forced to make snap decisions about what is true and what is false. Set in the round, Veritas has five dancers who explore themes of voyeurism, escapism, sensationalism, and the unbelievably vast amount of information we digest through media on a daily basis. Audience members will connect, collaborate, and be prompted to digitally interact with the dancers and each other throughout this dynamic performance.
Who is putting on this show?
Led by Madeline Maxine Gorman, the show is presented by GRIDLOCK Dance—a contemporary dance company based in Washington, DC. The collaborators include Shianne Antoine, Kayla Clancy, Destiny Cooke, Bill Gorman, Lightning Golem, Madeline Maxine Gorman, John McAfee, Dylan Lambert, and Tristan Speleos. The performance is commissioned by Joe’s Movement Emporium.
