Adult Jazz Foundation with Paetyn
February 9 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 8:00 pm on Thursday, repeating until February 16, 2023

60 minutes – Jazz dance explores syncopated and complex rhythm and musicality, isolation of the body, a “grounded” aesthetic, athleticism and artistry. Jazz dance is deeply rooted in American history. From its roots in African social dance, brought to the United States via the transatlantic slave trade, to its wide representation on the Broadway stage, and in film and television, it is a continually evolving art form. This introductory course will consist of a thorough warm-up, stationary exercises to develop a technical foundation and vocabulary utilized in jazz, as well as strength and flexibility exercises. Class will incorporate choreographed combinations to explore style, musicality, artistry, and choreography retention skills.
