Adult Beginner Tap with Katy
July 27 @ 7:30 pm - August 4 @ 8:30 pm
An event every week that begins at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, repeating until August 18, 2022

In tap class, students will build upon foundational steps such as shuffle, flap, dig, and brush in warm-ups and expound upon this foundation utilizing challenging rhythm and coordination exercises in more advanced exercises. Tap dance is often considered to live in two categories: Rhythm Tap, which primarily focuses on rhythm and musicality, with a large focus on improvisation, and Broadway Tap, which is more presentational. This class will be a combination of both Broadway Tap, incorporating choreography aimed at performance and execution of style, as well as an introduction to Rhythm Tap and improvisation. Sharing many roots with jazz dance, tap’s foundation fuses European (such as Irish jigs) and West African dance in this uniquely American dance form. Discussion and sharing footage of influential tap dancers and historical context will be a critical part of this course.
