At BalletNova Center for Dance (BNCD) our mission is to provide a center of dance excellence in Northern Virginia, nurturing and training dancers of all ages, and offering superb community performances.
BalletNova Center for Dance opened in the Fall of 1981 as Arlington Center for Dance. BNCD operates on a semester basis for adult and enrichment divisions, school year basis for Pre professional training program. The Center accepts children and adults at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels into a year-round program. The Center’s six state-of-the-art studios feature sprung floors and high ceilings. Our studios are available for rehearsals, events, and more!
BNCD offers a wide range of classes for young dancers including ballet, modern, jazz, tap, and hip hop. We also offer one of the most comprehensive adult dance class programs in the metropolitan area.
For those who are interested in fitness, there are classes in Pilates, Stretch, Yoga and Floor Barre. We have all levels from the complete beginner to the advanced dancer.
At BNCD, we are committed to the traditions started by school co-founder Kathryn Fredgren – training the “whole student.” The Center for Dance is dedicated to educating and mentoring dancers in a positive, nurturing environment and preserving the traditions of classical ballet through quality dance productions and education. We believe strongly in treating every dancer with dignity and respect. Our faculty and choreographers are firmly committed to training dancers for a professional career in a caring, yet challenging, atmosphere.
Due to the quality of our faculty and staff, serious dance students receive individual attention and some of the finest training available. Individuals seeking personal enrichment and exercise are able to attain their goals in a comfortable, enjoyable environment. Many young dancers training at the Center have auditioned for and performed with internationally known companies, including The Royal Ballet, Boston Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Sarasota Ballet, and the Dresden State Opera Ballet.
We believe in treating every dancer with dignity and respect, and we are firmly committed to the belief that training dancers for a professional career is possible in a caring atmosphere with mutual respect between teachers and students.
Artistic Director, Nancie Woods, continues the tradition with BalletNova with the Woods’ Philosophy.
BalletNova is a community-oriented dance company committed to presenting quality productions and choreography that people can understand, respect, enjoy, and afford. Check out our upcoming performances!
The organization, with over 1,300 students, is based on elements from the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and American Ballet Theatre National Training Curriculum™ syllabus (nationally and internationally recognized systems that provide a certification program in classical ballet) across all levels of children’s pre-professional classical ballet curriculum.
