LUMBERYARD Contemporary Performing Arts will be operating a state-of-the-art performance center located in the heart of downtown Catskill, NY scheduled to open in the Fall of 2018.  Understanding that the arts have the power to motivate, educate and inspire, LUMBERYARD is currently designing an Arts-based program for local youth that will cultivate creative thinking, empathy and self-confidence, while instilling a sense of collaborative community building.  Our goal is to assist young people reach their creative potential and mature into healthy, responsible, successful adults.

Junior Staff Program Description:
In this artistic youth program, teens and young adults ages 14-21 engage in a variety of activities that nurture self-development. Participants gain life skills, on the job training, employment and experiences in the arts.  The program manager will conduct trainings in job readiness, life skills, entrepreneurship and performing arts.  Managers will work with LUMBERYARD senior staff in scheduling work shifts, overseeing work shifts and evaluation in the following areas:  marketing, box office, house management, technical theater, artists services, landscaping and facility management. Participants will be paid through NY State Summer Youth Work Force July 9 – August 5.  After the Summer Youth Program culminates the LUMBERYARD hopes to continue this program year-round program with young adults ages 19-24.

Brief Description (200 words or less)  Areas of Responsibility:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Implement and enhance established self-development and job readiness curriculum
• Lead daily meetings and trainings for participants
• Schedule weekly work shifts in collaboration with LUMBERYARD staff and monitor Jr. Staff participation.
• Lead rehearsals for Lumberyard Youth Performance Group
• Evaluate program with established tools
• Follow the program’s budget
• Create alumni tracking and program plan
• Collect program data to enhance narrative reports
• Communicate with participants and their families
• Work closely with LUMBERYARD staff
• Work under the supervision of the Youth Program Advisor and On-Site Supervisor

Required Skills/ Qualifications:
• Accomplished educator with professional performing experience in dance, theater or music
• Creativity in delivery of curriculum
• Must be able to work independently and collaboratively
• Kind and caring demeanor
• Good communication skills
• Can show and give respect
• Can control a group with a gentle approach
• Highly organized and able to multitask in a fast pace environment
• Strong leadership qualities
• Be able to set and demonstrate high standards of performance including punctuality, dedication and follow through.

Education and Experience Requirements:
• Bachelor degree or comparative experience in youth education
• Experience in youth leadership (teens 14-19 or young adults 19-24)
