Dance Instructor/Choreographer for the Junior Academy of the Performing Arts
Experienced Dance Instructor/Choreographer needed to teach at an 11 to 12 week musical theatre intensive program for kids ages 8 to 15. The Junior Academy of the Performing Arts (JAPA) introduces musical theater to students who have a talent and curiosity for the performing arts and strengthens the knowledge and skill level of students already interested in pursuing theatre as a profession. The dance instructor is responsible for teaching proper dance technique as it pertains to movement in musical theatre. This encompasses the styles of tap, jazz, hip-hop, modern and contemporary dance. He/she will create choreography and teach it to the students during the rehearsal process. The instructor will create a curriculum that promotes physical health and the use of the body as expression for storytelling through movement. The dance instructor will also assist during all tech and dress rehearsals as well as the final performances.
Current program runs on Saturdays from 9am until 1pm. Rehearsals are at University of Maryland. Rehearsals will begin in February 2018. Dance Instructor/Choreographer will assist with pre-planning and production meetings prior to rehearsal start date.
Ideal candidate will have at least 1 year in dance instruction or have a degree in dance or equivalent field. CPR certification is required.
Salary: $15-$30/hour, based on experience
