Dance/USA’s Research internship provides training, mentorship, and direct experience in the growing field of arts research. Interns will be afforded opportunities to deepen their knowledge of trends and challenges within the U.S. dance community/ies and to engage with other Dance/USA departments and the Dance/USA membership. This position works alongside the Director of Research & Information Services.
Responsibilities will vary based on intern interests and Dance/USA research needs. In 2016, potential projects include the following:
-Expanding Dance/USA’s National Company Roster to be inclusive of dance companies with budgets under $100,000 and operating under different organizational models
-Updating Dance/USA’s database of dance presenters
-Assisting with updates to Dance/USA’s annual Snapshot of the Field
-Assisting in the design and administration of Dance/USA member surveys
-Assisting with the evaluation of Dance/USA programs
-Reviewing and cataloging the Dance/USA research archives
-Independent research projects
Qualified applicants will have an interest in arts research and arts management, possess strong written communication skills, be detail-oriented, and be proficient in Microsoft Excel. High (research) ethics and the ability to maintain confidential information also key. Applicants should be able to commit to a minimum of 15 hours/week for a period of 3-4 months (or longer; to be discussed). Stipends and university credit are available.
